This Month in the Vineyard
April is the month for new growth as the grapevines come alive from their winter rest. The newly emerged growth is lush with pale green foliage. Many vineyards will disk their cover crops. By the end of the month, the vines will be covered with new leaves, shoots and tendrils. April brings lengthening days, a little rain and warming weather. The official last frost date is the fifteenth, but April rarely sees weather that chilly. Night temperatures remain cool with average lows of 45 degrees and average daytime highs of 72 degrees. April still has a few wet days with an average of 2.4 inches of rain over the course of the month.
April is a great month to see the beautiful spring vineyards and enjoy Healdsburg’s many wineries.
